I have 2 sons with aspergers, and its tough going!! They are both high functioning and yet they still need direction when left in a room together.....they have very little social skills, and reacted to their Dads RTA 5 years ago quite badly......one is 15 the other is 10, I asked the social services for help.as i was running every day to the hospital and the kids (not just the boys) were missing both mum and dad!! Their response.......your not normal circumstances, your kids arent in any danger....that was the best they could do!!
My DH has severe brain injury......and will never ever be the same again, he is doubly incontinent, a full time wheelchair user, and needs supervision 24 hours per day....I had him at home for 18 months and just couldnt cope anymore...social services input....2 carers twice a day for a half hour to get in up and put him back to bed.....(7am then 6pm)...the kids had no life, they couldnt partake in any afterschool activities or join clubs...again i questioned the care plan telling the social workers that they had not considered the children in it........their answer this time....no funds!! Disgraceful!!
(sorry) What im saying is.....I sympathise with you, and you have my utmost respect, well done for fighting!!
Mumoffour Thank you so much for sharing your story, I appreciate it. It is stories like yours; Craftygranny's Alicia and Carly; TomsMom's OH and Flourgirl's niece's husband that put my own difficulties into perspective. In this country, we seem to be brainwashed to expect that if you have special needs your needs will be met by the schools the NHS or Social Services. It is only when something happens to you that you find that the safety net that this country has in place, has some almighty big holes in it and lots of people are falling through those holes.
Hey but what does it matter, our politicians can claim moats for their ducks at our expense - ooooh Thrifty, your supposed to be thinking about cards and nice stash not politics :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Right ladies, at the risk of sending this thread into orbit, I'm sorry but I can't sit on the fence anymore.
Hysterical - I appreciate that you felt you were defending a friend. However, you were wrong to come onto this thread challenging whether Rusty was telling the truth. Your actions have bullied a long-standing member of this thread into leaving and I for one miss her and am worried that she is well.
Without a public apology to her (or to anyone else on the thread) for the upset you have caused, you have the gall to post away as if nothing has happened. You have some front lady and I for one don't like it. I know that I am not the only one who feels this way, take a look at the number of thankyous your posts are receiving. FYI I am not a playground bully but I have worked in schools and I do know a bully when I see one.
I apologise to our long-standing thread members if this creates further havoc and upset but it needed to be said, Thrifty.0 -

Hi everyone, for any crafters from Northern Ireland, I have 2 free tickets to the stitch and creative craft show this weekend if anyone wants them. I bought myself a ticket for Saturday and then last night got an email through to say I'd won 2 tickets which can be used any day. I'd love it if someone could use these tickets, just pm me if you'd like them. I have also posted this on the NI craft fair forum, x0

I used this tutorial
it's really easy and some of the backgrounds that this lady has are really beautiful. She has another blog, The Graphics Fairy, I love looking at her beautiful vintage images, hope that helps. Can't wait to see your makes, x0 -
Happy Birthday craftygranny! Great new about Carly x
Crikey I've just caught up on the last few pages and don't quite know what to say! I hope doesn't affect the thread too much though as it's not worth it. Rusty please come back or it won't be the same without you...
Thriftyscotlass you're always going to know your son best - is there any way you could find another parent in the same situation as you and get your kids to meet up with your support?
Ooh got to play with the CraftRobo at the weekend (check out my blog for the card I made). I get a bonus tomorrow so seeing what deals I can get lol - where did you all get yours from? Also does anyone have the Design Master software?
