I've just remembered, when I was a teen we had a rescue dog who had worn lots of clothes and its top knot in a ribbon in its first home. I couldn't understand why she got so excited when I painted my nails till I realised she was keeping a paw still on my ap the whole time I painted a hand: my guess was she's had her nails painted a lot in her first home. I did it a couple of times, but even though she loved it (I think it was probably an attention thing with her first owner) I felt really wrong doing it to her.

I have a question about petticoats, or to be precise slips as I see they are now called! I've done a search and it takes me to the weddings forum and the type of petticoats they mention are the full crinolene petticoats which isn't what I'm after. Now I usually wear jeans and decided to buy some dresses but they are quite see through and wondered are slips no longer the done thing for wearing under a dress? It seems to be shapewear or wearing leggings with dresses! Oh hell, what do I do? It used to be so simple, just buy a petticoat (slip) either full length or a waisted slip. (I hope you know what I mean.) I'm looking for one that goes just above the knee.

I'll show you the dresses I have and maybe you can steer me in the right direction. I saw slips (lol, I so want to call them petticoats!) in BHS and M&S but thought they were pricey. I remember the good old days you could buy them for less than £5 in Peacocks. I've looked in Peacocks online but they sell shapewear. So, is it the done thing to wear a slip under a dress or leggings?? A lot of web sites show these short dresses but with leggings. What happened to wearing a dress on its own?

Ok, I've waffled on long enough but here are the dresses I have but didn't realise when I ordered them online that they would be so see through:

I hope you can help I feel out of the loop where fashion is concerned, lol. Well, I live in jeans which are my comfort zone so got the dresses to try something new and feeling scared.

balland chain, you can buy slips. At M & s for example. I wear full sips by reference. Or camisole and french knickers when I was slimmer.

You can buy and wear slips and wear a dress on its own....not a crime against fashion, and certainly not against style...whch is more important. ;)

I always just buy babydoll nighties for a couple of pounds in the supermarket as it's much cheaper and all I want is to stop the dress being see through. You get better colours too.

Thank you girls! This fashion thing is so confusing and I would never have thought about the baby doll nighties idea. Thanks!

I've just had an idea. I have a couple of chemises I wear for bed, those might work with the darker dresses and I can look out for a chemise in white.
