Have you tried "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas" Daisy? I loved the Book Thief, too!

If not, you can have my copy :) I thought it was alright but IMO, a bit lazily written and not something I'd want to read again.

Michael Morpurgo's definitely worth a read though. Try War Horse or Private Peaceful.

I went to Ypres, the Menin Gate and some of the WW1 cemeteries last year when I was in Bruges. God, it was heartbreaking. May blog about it at some point if it wouldn't massively depress people to read abuot it.

Alex - I love war films. During the 1980's when the Vietnam films were in-vogue I was in cinema heaven: Good Morning, Vietnam, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, Biloxi Blues ....bliss.

I loved the Band Of Brothers book (and the series was outstanding). My favourite has to be Birdsong, the most heartbreaking thing I've ever read.

My brother and you would get on like a house on fire. He's done the WW1 cemetaries and visited Krakow and Auchwitz.

We've got an amazing German cemetary on Cannock Chase, well worth a visit to the Midlands.

I can't get on with Sebastian Faulks at all - Charlotte Gray was soul destroyingly boring.

I will bang the drum for Warriors again. It's AMAZING. Please get a copy :)

I went there when I was at school. Really moving but such an amazing experience. The ceremony that they do each night in Ypres for the fallen soldiers is really nice.

I'd actually love to go back!!

Band of Brothers = amazing. They are making one with Brittish soldiers in it, currently on Sky premiere.

Hmmm I'm eyeing up that vegan book. May get it for some yummy recipes as im trying to be good :D.

oh i'm just back from a v cheerful lunchtime trip to town, popped into my friend's shop for a natter and to get little sis a bday card, and she gave me a beautiful pink sequin headband from the window display, so long as i promised to wear it as it matches today's shoes so well lol, i'm not sure i do it justice, but will get you lot a pic when i get home..

and then popped in to get a hot choc on the way back to the car, and my friend (who works in the coffee shop lol) gave me a few more stamps on the card so that it was free lol..

    He's Scouse in it! :D

And Damien Lewis and Ioan Gryffud (sp?) , both swoonsome. Saw Damien Lewis's play with Keira Knightley just after Christmas last year - he is delicious up close :o
