Merging zip files

I have two desktop PC's at work which have around 11,500 zip files on with identical text files in, one text file per zip file per week. I also archive these off onto an external hard drive, but the external HD has a complete record going back two years whilst I only keep six months data on the PC's. When I archive them off, I use a batch file that extracts the weeks I want to archive into a temp folder on my 'C' drive, then rezips them to the archive folders on the external HD. Is there an easier way to do this, like merging the zip files from the desktop PC's to the zip files on the external HD? Thanks in advance

It sounds as though you are doing manually what any half-decent backup program would do automatically.
All backup programs that I've ever used have the option to back up only those files that have been changed or created since the last backup, and they all have options to compress the archive to reduce the space required on the backup drive. What more do you need?
IIRC, the backup utility that has been shipped free with Windows since XP Pro onwards will do what you need without a problem.0 -
fwor is correct. The turn for this is change data capture (CDC). I could write you a very simple program to do this in a few minutes, pm me if interested (dw, i am not looking for money)0

Thanks. Had a look at the backup options but although I don't use the archived zip files, others do so they need to be held as working zip files rather than backup files.0 -
