Good luck with this. Did you report her to anyone for having a dog prone to attacking others? My dog loves being off lead and meeting other dogs and luckily has had no bad experiences but this kind of story scares me.

Also, insiting that she pays up may make her become more reposible when walking her dog, to avoid paying further vet bills.

right julie - 17 stitches is certainly severe trauma!
when you said about being naive about dangerous dogs - I thought you meant the Dangerous Dogs Act - sorry!!!
if this dog is known to attack other dogs who are on lead - I would certainly report it to its local dog warden - and perhaps a word to the community police officers in its area? usually on website and you can email them. I shudder to think that it may be a child walking a dog next time it attacks!!
I had a staffy, but I was well aware that she didnt like other dogs, and never let her off lead unless i was sure that no other dogs were around. but, the best laid plans etc.....fortunately she was also very obedient and i could control her with voice commands - and taught her to 'freeze' which came in handy a couple of times. this person has no business owning this dog - she cannot control it and she as you say knows its dangerous. report her hun and make sure she pays your vets bills!
