Is BT REALLY exorbitant?

We keep hammering on about BT being exorbitant - so what did I miss...

I've just switched back to BT taking the £4.99/month Unlimited Anytime package. Here's my logic.

Was using 18185 before. Calls 0p/minute PLUS 5p call setup. We seem to make about 200 calls per month so it's ten quid in call setups plus the mobile etc stuff.

The Unlimited Anytime package has 0p/minute and NO call setup fee. So I think I'm £5/month better off.

BT's usual call setup fee is 9p; so I probably want to stay with 18185 for mob calls, as mob calls are not in the free package. Probably also cheaper to use 18185 for international calls too.

I've looked hard to find a catch in this and if it's there I'm missing it. Any MSE's prepared to point out my error?

The catch could be for the first three months.

    Try Hotel Chocolat and Baileys.

I don't think so. The first three months are free, then it goes to 4.99/mo. The deal is still 0p setup/0p per minute. I have to redial after 60 minutes, or start paying, but I don't really consider that a catch.

I'm still not seeing the catch.
  • No there is no catch, your reasoning is correct. It suits you because you make a high number of calls each month, I only make about 20 calls a month so it would not suit me.
Just find out if you are tied to a rolling 12 month contract with that price.

The first 3 months free brings the cost down effectively for the first year to approximately £3.75p a month.( approx £36 a year ) .Its a 12 month rolling contract. You need to give notice in month 11 if you wish to revert to non -rolling contract.

If you order it through the Customer Options Team they can if pushed to give you an additional £24 or £36 credit on a future bill.

18185 is cheaper for calls to UK Mobiles.

Depending on your Intl Destination you could use www.callsdiscount.com UK geographical access number to make intl calls at no extra charge from your BT inclusive minutes.

Thanks for that, I haven't come across that one before and was happy to pay 0.5p/min + 4p connection with another operator. This one is 0p/min so will be free with my inclusive minutes.

I'm on the BT E/Weekend package; I reckon I only make ~ 50 daytime calls per quarter - so I'm far better off using 18185 than signing up for Anytime - doesn't stop BT trying tho':rotfl:
  • Both I and my wife work from home. We are here to use it during the day, and we have reasons to as well. Hence lots of daytime calls.

Don't let BT know you are using the line for business from home - they'll probably want to change you on to some expensive business package !! LOL
