BT account problem

Hi, sorry this is a long one but i need to get the story over.

Am having real problems with BT, i moved in to my own place back in August and checked around the internet for landline offers that were cheap. I seen that BT done a landline that was only £15 every 3 months for people on low incomes and benefits and i wanted the internet so i checked up on this and it was possible with that option, I gave them a ring to order the £15 every 3 month but they said that i needed a BT account to get it, the only option i had was to open an account and pay for a months charge at normal rates which i agreed to so i opened the account with the internet.
Everything was installed, sent out and working i payed for the 1 month that was stated to me and a rang them up to change to the £15 option, BT's response was "well you have to wait another month as it needs to be active for a certain amount of time, please ring back next month.", i did this and the next time i rang i got the exact same response so i questioned exactly when i could get this and the operator couldnt give me an answer as they diddnt know.
The end of the month i got a bill for £130 for 3 months charge in advance, i give them a ring and the operator said that i now needed to pay this then i would be refunded when i was on the £15 option but still couldnt tell me when i was able to change, being on benefits i couldnt possibly pay this and i was getting frustarted at the fact i was now paying for something i never wanted and will never use the operator couldnt grasp what i was trying to get at when i told them this so when i was finished i canceled the direct debt as i diddnt have the money available to pay it.
BT rang me a few days later saying that the problem was with trying to change the account while it had the internet on the line, so i offered that i would pay for the month that i used but not the months in advance, this wasnt suitable for them.
I've now got a bill for cancelation of the landlin and internet mounting up to £350 i contacted them saying that i wasnt paying this as i was mislead in to a contract that i diddnt want and the response was "well you have to pay this."
I now have a letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery Ltd saying i now owe £472 and that it will increase to £577 if i dont pay by 26/02/2010

What can i do as i dont agree that i owe anymore then £40 for the month i used and the fact i was mislead in to opening an account and them not giving me the option i wanted ?
Please help

    Hi Rooksey123,

I am sorry for the hassle that BT has caused here. I would like to look into this for you. Please drop me an email (you can find my email address in my profile), include as much info as you can, i.e. BT account details, order numbers, address, anything you have been given by BT so I can locate your account.

Also please include the link to this post so I can reference back.

    Cheers
