Wanting Home Phone & Broadband

Re my previous post on Sky, we have finally left Sky now so are actively looking for a home phone and broadband service which isn't going to cost us loads.
I've rang Virgin Media who have offered us a package of home phone and broadband for £30 a month. Talk Talk offered around the same with international calls, we took their package out and they started messing us around with an installation date and after reading their reviews online quickly cancelled with them.
I am basically looking for a Home Phone with Line Rental & Broadband, the only problem is our house is an ex show home, the previous owners had a line installed and were using it for business, its been disconnected since we arrived, we dont know if its an active line etc so will need them to switch it on, i've been told this is £120 from BT which we want to avoid.
Im looking to find a company who don't charge the £120 to switch the line on, line rental, evening and weekend calls, possibly international calls and a medium package of broadband which can be installed quickly as we've now been waiting two months
Your help is really appreciated!
Thanks,
Antony

Read this on getting a free BT connection http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-BT-line-installation
Read this on getting phone and broadband (your exchange permitting). One of the cheapest bundles around http://broadband.talktalk.co.uk/?portalId=MONEYSMART&promoId=MSM0001&branchId=1231
Once with BT, transfer to Talk Talk. Just one option.0 -
Thanks for that. Reading the "Get a free bt line installed", does that mean that you pay BT for the line rental but have to make 10 chargeable calls a month to BT for it to work? It's quite confusing....
Plus it says the deal expires on the 16th Feb, will have to give em' a call to see if its still running.
Thanks,

Hi there I'm not quite sure how it works to be honest. I've been with Talk Talk for a while now so not up to date with BT. However, we're moving to a new house soon and the exchange isn't wired up to take Talk Talk so back to BT it is (or that's the plan). I'm hoping I can get the free installation so fingers crossed. Best of luck with it. To check your exchange click this link http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and you'll see exactly what is available to you broadband wise.0 -
I posted a thread here yesterday regarding plus net.
I've signed up with them today. I live in a house that had a landline but it's not been used for over a year. I asked plus net and they're connecting it foc:j
So now I'm just waiting for everything to go through. They're very helpful and their call centres are uk based!!
Good luck with what you chooseI get paid to smell great :j0 -
Apparently virgin media are offering £16/mth line rental,bb and tv with free installation. Don't think there's free international calls though. i know post office do free international calls but you would have to pay the connection charge.

BT have just changed that free installation offer. It's now £50 for installation when you sign up for broadband and phone (18m contract and 10 chargeable calls/m) and 'free' with broadband, phone and TV (18m contract, £4.99 more on your monthly bill and 10 chargeable calls/m).
If your line has been in use recently, though, it's unlikely that you'll have to get a new one installed anyway. If I were you I'd get a cheap home phone and ring your new provider to walk you through some checks.
I wouldn't want to go to BT if I could help it but it depends where you so check samknows or https://www.chooseisp.co.uk - good luck!

Probably not a good idea to "get BT then transfer to TalkTalk". BT will commit you to a 12 month contract, TalkTalk will take you out of that contract and so BT will charge you an early leaving fee.0 -
Just spoke to Plusnet -
free conection 3-4 days, free e & we calls 300 free international, line rental £11.25, with 10gb download would be total of £17.24 all in.
