Help Pls -Business Phone Lines - who's cheaper than BT?

Hi All, I am shorlty moving into a new office and taking on a business line. (Not sure where to post as no business telephone section!)

BT want to charge £10 to activate the line and £41.15 per quarter and an extortiante 8p a min local call and 30p national!

I don't know alot about the other providers - so who are the other providers i can approach, are there any comparison tables? ....and most of all are they reliable?

P.S I will also need to factor in a broadband connection if that makes any difference on getting a good deal!

many thanks for nay help

We use Telewest at work (they're NTL now aren't they?) Pretty good, but always used to be expensive for Broadband, don't know if that's still the case. My tame IT guy says it's still better value to have a BT line and use a cheaper ISP, and it does give us the belt and braces security of being able to phone out on a BT line IF all the Telewest lines in the area go down!

Depends if you only want one line, btw, we found that the Centrex system from TW is exactly what we need to give us multiple lines in and the ability to transfer calls quickly and easily.

If you are having broadband and a phone line - why not go for the VOIP service from BT, you pay for an additional VOIP line (about £20 a month - but this includes all local and national calls!) This means you can still have incoming calls while you are dialling out on your voip line - if there is more than just you in the office you can buy a Voip phone system to link it all together for £350 - have just bought one and it's very good - there may well be cheaper out there but this is pretty slick and with the music on hold and voice mail it makes the business feel bigger than it is.

Their is nothing to stop you using a BT residential line for business purposes at your home address. If you try to have a residential line at a proper business address they will not allow it.

Combine this with https://www.1899.com all 01/02 calls 3p a call, and use Primus Saver 2 for your FREE E&W 01/02 calls.

That will keep your overheads down.:D

As mobilegossip said, but the additional services you are paying for (ie you don't get them with a residential line) are free line entries in Yellow Pages and in the residential section of the phone book. So it partly depends whether you'd expect people to look for you in the business part of the phone book or not.
