Hi All, I am shorlty moving into a new office and taking on a business line. (Not sure where to post as no business telephone section!)

BT want to charge £10 to activate the line and £41.15 per quarter and an extortiante 8p a min local call and 30p national!

I don't know alot about the other providers - so who are the other providers i can approach, are there any comparison tables? ....and most of all are they reliable?

P.S I will also need to factor in a broadband connection if that makes any difference on getting a good deal!

many thanks for nay help

You don't need to put your calls through BT though, you can sign up for https://www.call1899.co.uk and https://www.call18185.co.uk for all your calls.

You really have much more choice for your broadband with a BT line :) When we had Telewest at the office the choice was a very expensive business bb with Telewest or AOL and so changed one of the lines to BT :)

Eh? £10 for what? It's either £125 or nothing for reconnection.

8p a minute local call is rubbish too. They don't differentiate between local or national.

A UK landline 01/02 call is 3p a minute during the day and 5.5p a call during the evening. There is only a 5.5p connection charge if the total amount of the call comes to less than 5.5p, if not, it's absorbed into the cost of the call.

wrong, these rates are for residental customers, not buisness!

Thank goodness https://www.call1899.co.uk and https://www.18185.co.uk don't differentiate between residential and business customers:

1899 - UK 01/02 calls, regardless of duration, for 3p connection and 0p/minute.

    18185 - UK 077/078/079 calls for 4p connection and 5p/minute weekdays (2p/minute at weekends).

OTOH, there may be cheaper (but not such easy) routes in the MSE UK Callchecker (and the MSE International Callchecker for overseas calls).

thanks everyone - can you tell me if i go the call1899/18185 route - am I likely to have problems with a getting a decent broadband connection? i wouldn't be fussed about a BT broadband service any would do - the cheaper the better provided it's reliable.

No. You will have a BT landline - it'll just be that you use the 1899 or 18185 prefix appropriate to particular outgoing calls.

BB is not affected (I have BB, a [residential] BT landline, use a CPS provider, 1899 and 18185).
