Hi,
Medion sent an engineer who has changed sound card on my pc but now the fan is going crazy. The medion helpline told me to download a driver and said the instructions were with it.
On instructions it says to insert application and support cd and boot from cd rom. I have done this but it just comes up with my normal menu.
Were do I find the correct screen to boot form cd rom.s.
The noise of the fan is driving me crazy.
Thanks in advance
Anne

as soon as you switch the comp on hit 'delete' button a bunch of times til it boots to BIOS.
within BIOS there will be an option to change the boot device order, you want to change 1rst boot device from HDD to CDROM. it's not always in the same place, so look for menu options like 'Boot Priority', or 'Advanced Configuration'.
remember and swap it back when you're done"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Always leave first boot device as floppy, cd rom then hd.
If you don't have a floppy, then cd rom, hd, then other devices such as external hd, pen drive, network etc...0 -
You don't normally have to boot from any CD to install a driver. What exactly do the instructions say?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Medion = Morons
i have dealt with them and they are pretty useless, their normal reply to to reset everything and start again, if your fan is going crazy its worth checking that the bios settings are correct and everything is installed ok first, the boot CD will wipe your settings and all data dont fall for it, the application and support CD works while it is on to install anything you need.0 -
Hi,
thanks for your responses.
Not sure if I should do what Medion say or not.
Here are their instructions. I don't want to do if it will mess up my pc as my husband and I are rubbish at anything pc. Any views on whether this could harm my pc or lose info or should I have a go. Alternatively I could just make them send the engineer again to fix.
+++Instructions to update your system bios +++
1. Unzip the downloaded file into a created folder at the partition E: of your harddisk.
2. Afterwards restart your PC with the Application-/ Support-CD.
3. At the MS Windows CD-ROM-Bootmenue choose "Boot from CD-ROM".
4. After that select "MS-DOS Prompt" in the Application-/Support-CD Startmenue .
5. Finally execute the autoexec.bat file which can now be found at Partition C: into your specified folder.
6. Now start the update procedure by pressing any key.
7. After the bios update please reboot your system.
Please be aware that you noticed the original bios setting before starting the update, because some values may have changed afterwards.
Information:
To extract all files press the "Extract"-Button. The files will be extracted to the folder specified in the "Folder"-Field. This folder will be created, if it does not exist. Important:
For any errors, caused by the execution of this update, we don´ t accept any responsibility for damage or lost of data. The customer agrees with that fact by executing the update.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
Not sure why they're telling you to do a bios flash just for a noisy fan - bios updating is risky and you can trash your pc if you're not careful.
You say a Medion engineer replaced the soundcard? Is it working correctly?
If you have a noisy fan it may be coincidental or the engineer may have disturbed a case fan. In either case you don't need to update the bios to fix it. Do you have more info on why they told you to do this?
btw - which fan is noisy? Have you opened the case to look?

The Medion technical support guy is talking out of his proverbial!! A driver update will not fix a noisy fan (if he insists on pursuing the driver update solution, get him to send you an email explaining how a driver update fixes a noisy fan) . Get them to send an engineer out again, especially if it's under warranty.

Or it could be starting to die and struggling to get upto speed.
Both I have experienced, however some people think that low level fan noise is too loud, I myself like noisy fans they keep me awake.
Get yourself over to amazon and look for a fair priced book on building, maintaining and problems with computer hardware.
You might learn some common errors we know already.0 -
You have a noisy fan and support sent you instructions to update your bios?
Before you do anything else, delete those instructions, not only are they totally irrelevant to a faulty fan (as already stated above), but that is an road you do NOT want to go down unless you really have to.
Open the case, figure out which fan is noisy and check it out for obstructions/dust.Rocky.0
