    Hi DalesBoy

When you contact us to get this matter resolved, we will cancel all incorrect gas invoices and then rebill the account correctly. If you have been paying for the gas for a while on the wrong meter setting, then you will receive a credit back for the overpayments.

I appreciate that this error may have caused a great deal of inconvenience for you and on behalf of the company I sincerely apologise for this.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Kind Regards

  • Colin, i think we will be requesting far more than just being recompensed for what we've been overcharged. We raised the issue of our large gas bills over 12 months ago and Scottish Power did nothing to help us sort out the problem, but were more than happy to pocket our cash. It has taken us a full year to get to the bottom of the issue, including paying over £3,000 to have a log burner installed in the house to keep warm. My wife's health has also suffered due to the cold and from already underlying health problems. So, no, we will not simply be fobbed off with a rebate and forgotten about.

Due to the inept customer service we've recived over the last 18 months we'll also be switching provider as soon as the current billing fiasco has been sorted out.

I realise you utilise this site in an attempt to 'smooth over' any issues customers have with Scottish Power to avoid bad publicity for the company, but on this occasion the company has screwed up and poeple need to know.

You can request what you like, but the supplier will only be obliged to put you back into the situation you would have been in if the error had not occurred. Whilst they may elect to offer you a small goodwill gesture also, it will simply be that, a small gesture of goodwill (typically about £20 - £50) ... and definitely not something they are obliged to give.

Ultimately if you take legal action, again you will only be put back in the situation you would have been in had the error not have occurred ... and I doubt there'll be much goodwill being offered if it does resort to legal action.

    Good luck!
