Vista v. Windows 7

I am currently using Windows Vista HP and was amazed when Microsoft launched Windows 7 so soon after Vista, especially with all the hype about Vista. I Hope Vista does not become another Windows Millenium (no updates after a couple of years).

I assure you that ME's biggest flaw was not simply a lack of updates.0

I still have Windows ME on one of my Sony VAIO laptops from 2001. :rotfl:0

If they bring out Vista SP3, I thnk Vista will be virtually Windows 7.
Vista improved with SP1 and SP2 for me.
At moment I am using Win 7 and have had to do plenty of customization like
Getting the tabs in the taskbar back to XP form
Getting rid of themes
Putting classic start menu back in
Putting Quick Launch back into place
Making sure I am not bugged by prompts (admittedly Win7 has fewer ones than Vista).
Lots of these changes other people find "backward" but for me they are essential.
Win7 does have a better media player but still I revert to using VLC.
The file manager is as useless as its been since Vista was introduced so I use a 3rd party replacement program.
IE remains what it is - useful for those sites which must use IE and no other but not as good as Firefox.
The control panel in Win7 is annoying. I use detail view - so many items (I spend more time trying to find the item to click than to do the actual thing I want to do).
Have noticed Win7 seems to hit the hard disk in background a bit (not sure what its doing)
Personally I would say bear with Vista for a bit longer and hope SP3 comes out soon. And then upgrade only when Win 8 or something comes out. That will show Microsoft GRRR.
Saying all that I had noticed Vista was gradually grinding to a halt at times ... hence why I am on win70 -
It really depends on what you want the OS for?
Vista is ok if you have more than 4gb of RAM. The machine runs fine.
Windows 7 is really good at booting up. Basically, it is what vista should have been.
Besides, microsoft are planning to release windows 8 within 2-3 years. It is a never ending catch up.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

The gap between new releases of Microsoft's operating systems has generally been about three years. It's just that XP has had such a long life that makes Vista to 7 appear so small.
(Ignoring DOS and pre-Windows 2000 versions of NT)
Windows 1 - 1985
Windows 2 - 1987
Windows 3 - 1990
Windows 3.1 - 1992
Windows 95 - 1995
Windows 98 - 1998
Windows 2000 & ME - 2000
Windows XP - 2001
Windows Vista - 2006
Windows 7 - 20090 -
....to smell ? :rotfl:It's just that XP has had such a long life that makes Vista to 7 appear so small.0
