I want family/friends to pay for honeymoon but how do I do this?

My daughter is getting married in June and the wedding has cost so much that she has no money left over for the honeymoon. We have seen the websites where you can contribute to the honeymoon so she could ask for this as a wedding gift but it seems that she still has to fork out for the flights and hotel, then the gifts are just, for example, a room upgrade or a hot air balloon ride once you are there. She cannot afford the flights and hotel to start with so how do we set it up for anyone who wants to give contributes to that? Your suggestions would be appreciated please.

I'm not entirely sure but I think Thomas Cook may let you do that? Other than that, you could ask them to give cash? Would mean that they go on honeymoon a little later than straight after the wedding but still...

my sis has done this through debenhams, some debenhams (like reading) have deals with virgin hols, and basically she has a debenhams gift card on their wedding list with a note saying this will be used towards the honeymoon-you pay for honeymoon (on c.card for example) and after wedding then debenhams transfer the money to virgin who refund you back the amount the gift card was for.

Its a way of having a few "real" pressies on your wedding list (towels etc) and also the honeymoon option too which is what my sis wanted, so they only have a few items on their list the main thing is the gift card. Debenhams is easy for everyone to access too, via shop or online.

  • You may have heard about a new bride who was a bit embarrassed to be known as a honeymooner. So when she and her husband pulled up to the hotel, she asked him if there was any way that they could make it appear that they had been married a long time. He responded, "Sure. You carry the suitcases!"
  • In all seriousness, have you considered a weekend UK spa break instead?
  • we're asking for trailfinders vouchers as presents and then booking our honeymoon once we know how much we've got. We're not bothered about going straight after the wedding so are just having a week at home together straight after the wedding and have booked 2 weeks off for the month after for honeymoon.
  • Thanks all. I have investigated all the web sites and the bottom line is that to take advantage of these schemes you have to have the honeymoon some time after the wedding, not immediately following it. She will know next time.....

my sis is going 2 days later, with the debenhams/virgin thing. But it is a case of paying it, then getting refunded what you've got in pressies.
