Shortage of cheap second hand cars...
Options
I have been looking for a small, cheap car to replace our old one which won't get through an MOT due to it being a rusty mess underneath - it barely scraped through the last one...
I have been looking on Auto Trader and in the local paper, as well as asking around, and there just don't seem to be many sub £1000 cars around in any sort of useable condition, presumably because of the scrappage scheme.
Does anyone know of a better place to search for used cars? I can't afford a new one, and need something small and cheap as I have only had my licence a few months so insurance will be huge, plus the parking around here is a nightmare so a small car is useful! I only need it to go a couple of miles to work and back, plus the odd shopping trip etc. My partner has a nice car for if we go any distance!

Theres a few on piston heads
an 02 matiz with 37k miles and ins grp 2 for 1k, not the most exciting car but should be cheapish to insure and in half decent condition

one good way to reduce your insurance premiums is to have a named driver on the policy who is over 40 like a parent, even if they are never going to use it.0 -
Try to avoid them 1.0GM engines they have lots of problems once they get to about 40k...0

Can you not hold off until scrappage ends? Might help a (very) little bit.
Scrappage scheme: second-hand car shortage causes prices to soar:-

ebay?
i was looking at old fiat pandas on there yesterday, and a 1990 model is only £400+. Very decent price, given that they cost next to nothing to run (and are very cheap to insure).
