What car do you want to use it on primarily?

For example, the best for VW, Audi, Skoda etc is a laptop with Vag-com (now known as VCDS). This will work on other cars but only in tbe basic OBDII code reading capacity.

I guess you'll be looking at a brand like snap-on (sun) then. http://www.sun-diagnostics.com/uk/ Won't be cheap. Hopefully someone will be along with a more specific recommendation.

the best value code reader is the launch c reader v costs £50 on ebay just make sure its uk spec not made in hong kong will read all obd11 and eobd, will reset eml and show live data stream. i would avoid snap on as they time out if not updated, 18 months ago i brought a sykes pickavant acr4 with the latest updates, cost new around £7000 i paid £275 and can suscrube/reg with sykes for updates. great bit kit will do everything
