Electrical fault?

Evening All!

This afternoon, the electrical stuff on the car packed in. There was obviously no warning but I'm really glad we'd just pulled into a car park!

OH & I pushed it up a hill and it was going again by the time it reached the bottom :D but we had a bit of a hair-raising moment when thought the kids were locked in!

OH doesn't think it needs to go to a garage as it's started alright since it 'died' but I'm not so sure, I think I'd like to have it checked out and was just wondering really what you guys thought it could have been? I believe it's still in warranty so if there is a problem then will it be fixed for free?

If it makes any difference, it's a focus.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

  • all the electrical stuff? if so then it could be a loose battery connection.

Yeah it all went, it wouldn't start and the central locking started going a bit manic!

    Flat battery?

OH thought it could have been the battery. We had to get the garage to come and get it once before and they charged it overnight. They said it was holding a charge then asked for £60!

They advised us to make sure the car was running for at least 30secs before switching anything on (cd palyer, lights, wipers etc) which we've been doing.

Most car electrical shops will do free battery and alternator test for ya. Either that or get a multimeter should be around 14v across the battery terminals when the engine is running and 11.8 to 12 ish volt when every things off.

It was a £20 deposit for them to come out and jump start it. That went towards the bill.
