Fault with my expensive camera: complain to manufacturer or retailer?

Good news! I went back to Olympus and they said 'send us the camera, we can tell by the serial number whether it is still under warranty.' They rang today to say the camera had been fixed, free of charge, and that it is on its way back to me by Special Delivery.
Thankfully they did not need the warranty card (which the retailer had not provided), but it was disappointing that it took Olympus so long to agree to look into things. Their initial reply had been 'send it in, but it will cost £140'.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Glad it's sorted, but isn't the warranty card the little leaflet that is in every box that says "fill this in, send it back and you'll have a warranty"?0
