Just how bad can they get?

Over the last few months they've:

  • Lost my ISA, then found it, then lied about how they lost it, then said it was my fault, then couldn't 'find' the call that I made to them, then sent me compensation as the call had been 'lost.
  • Increased my overdraft limit at my request, then sent me a letter saying I had exceeded my overdraft limit without authority, then charged me for not even going over my overdraft limited anyway, then ignored my complaint.
  • Got my DOB wrong on my latest Experian report, even though I've banked with them for +10 years and it's always been correct (until now).
I despair, I really do...

The process of moving to First Direct is almost complete :D

  • You are not alone in your exasperation. There is much grumbling and gnashing of teeth on this site regarding the Santander group.

I regret that I have recently opened a current account with them for the sake of £100 and 0% overdraft for a year. I fear I may come to regret it in due course. :( .

you will. No doubt about it! I regret the day (Christmas Eve 2008) that I first got tangled in their web of deceit :p

So far, so good with First Direct. After being with A&L for so long I find it amazing that I can now pick up the phone, speak to someone (no menus to go through) who knows what they're talking about and who then, unusually, does what I have asked them to do!

Keeping customers happy? It'll never catch on...
  • Oh beetroot! And I've only gone and opened an ISA with them tonight haven't I...? I've read quite a few threads on here and quite a few are hard on A+L, not looking good for my savings... *sigh*
I'm learning little by little... I'll get there one day!!!

I don't think you should have any problems with savings - was it the 3.5% ISA? :T

It's usually current account skulduggerey and a dysfunctional Customer Services which causes heartaches and headaches with A&L. :(

When I (correctly) transferred my ISA from them to another FI A&L unilaterally decided to cancel the transfer and then 'misplaced' over £7k of my money for about 2 months while they tracked it down. :(

A&L - following in Abbey's footsteps towards Santander. Meanwhile, my footsteps (4 current accounts, 2 savings accounts) are happily skipping in the opposite direction.

To be honest, I haven't had too many problems with A&L. But Abbey went so quickly downhill after they became Santander that I fear the same is inevitable with A&L, so I am already beating a hasty retreat.

Besides anything else, if I wanted to throw my money at Lewis Hamilton then I'd choose to do it myself, not via them!
