Bad reception

Since going digital (East Dorset) the reception has been appalling, people advise me to get a dish/join the basic sky package but these are not options as I will not knowingly contribute to Mr Murdoch.
I of course pay the BBC but cannot figure out why I pay for a service I do not receive,
can't get 1 2 3 4 or 5 for that matter, it's always when the weather is inclement like now. Any helpful suggestions on either non payment or rectifying the service most welcome.

How are you receiving your signal now - Freeview, Satellite?

If you can't get freeview, i would get a Humax freesat PVR - gives you Sky+ type functionality without a subscription.

Some aerials that were just about OK for analogue don't cope with digital so it might be a case of just replacing the array on your roof for a larger or better designed one.

I'd start by removing and refitting any coax cable connectors which plug into the back of your TV and possible a socket in the wall. Ensure there is plenty of the copper outer cable on contact with the connector, otherwise the picture will freeze.

I had problems on both our TVs which run off seperate aerials. One required a new length of coax, the other just needed the connector refitting.

We supposedly did just that with a top of the range B&Q one, made no difference

Are you currently using a freeview set-top box?

Do your close neighbours get good Freeview reception?
  • I'd second the recommendation for the Humax Freesat PVR, my parents have one and it's absolutely fantastic. Sky + without the subscription and pretty much guaranteed signal because it's through a dish.
