Used car

Hi,

I recently purchased a used car from a private seller. The car was advertiesed as having had a replacement (low milage) engine, an the mileage was advertised as 105000 miles. I was given a full service history and old MOT's for this replacement engine.

After a couple of hundred miles the engine went pop (suspeced head gasket), and since have had it replaced. While the old engine was out I took note of the engine number. This engine number is the same as is on the V5 form, but completely different from the engine number in the dealer service history book - I can only assume the engine has never been replaced and the seller lied.

Another thing - I have done an MOT history check and the last MOT before the previous seller bought the car the milage was 168,000, then he MOT's it and its down to 105,000!

I know buying a used car usually has no come back, and fully accept I will probably have to write this off as a bad experience - but, seeing as the seller lied - do I have any comeback?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks :)

no the owner could have notified the DVLA of the engine swap and supplied the new engine number
TBH without documents to prove it i always take stated works done with a pinch of salt
same with milage on the MOT's,thats one to check before buying .the car could have had it clocks replaced for legit reasons or to drop the mileage
