Which is best - Celeron or Pentium M?

Options
My other half is looking to buy a new laptop and we're looking at the Dell Inspiron 1300. We can't decide between the following, which is best?

Option 1:

Processor: Celeron M Processor 380 1.6GHz; 1024MB RAM (2 x 512); 60GB hard drive; 8X DVD+/-RW; 15.4" WXGA screen.

Option 2:

Processor: Pentium M Processor 735a 1.7GHz; 512MB RAM; 60GB hard drive; 8X DVD+/-RW; 15.4" WXGA screen.

They're basically the same spec but one is a Celeron with more RAM, the other is a Pentium M with less RAM. They are both the same price (£439).

My other half will mainly be using it for email, net surfing & writing long documents using MS Word. Which would be the best one to get? Thanks!!

I'd go for the Pentium M everytime. It will run cooler, quieter and longer (on battery). Not to mention being more powerful.

RAM can always be upgraded, but you're stuck with the processor.

512Meg RAM is more than sufficient for everyday use.

yeah I would go for the pentium M with 512 over a celeron with 1GB any day.

Yeah Pentium M(or centrino....) is deff the best one to get. the celeron is the "basic" processor for home use.

Pentium M is the big daddy processor of them all for laptops :-)(unless you get the new duo core versions)
  • Hi,
Any chance of telling me where the Centrino laptop is? The one I had my eyes on has been discontinued :(
