Is £670 a reasonable price for car insurance for a 23 year old female with 1 year no claims? I have a 2002 Toyata Yaris, medical student as occupation although will change to doctor half way through insurance, though this won't affect the premium i'm guessing until following year? Don't live in the city. Also have a TS10 motor conviction from last year but no claims. Only paid £530 last year so it seems a big jump, and even doing a quote without the conviction still made it higher than last year..anyone know why it's jumped up? Is it because of the increased claims from the bad weather this year?

Is it actually better to be insured under an older driver until you're 25 and then countinue with your own policy?

Is this a renewal quote from your existing insurer?

If so, the jump is them banking on you not shopping around.

No this is the cheapest I could find after going through the screenscrapers on Martin's article, including legal cover and windscreen! My automatic renewal was actually £750! I tried to haggle with my original insurer DirectLine but they refuse to match other quotes except their own online one which came out as £738 :-( They also said even without my conviction it was more expensive because of the increased claims due to weather this year. I don't see why this should make my premium go up though just because everyone else made a claim!
