Numbers (the program) on Mac Problem

Heya everyone.
This is a question on behalf of my OH.
He got a Mac yesterday but is having some problems with the program Numbers (which is like the Mac version of Excel).
It won't let him add or delete single cells, only rows and columns.
Does anyone have any ideas, or know of a free alternative that allows a user to add and delete single cells, instead of just columns?
Has to be Mac compatible of course. =P
Thanks.

You can't do delete cells like you ask and shift cells at the time time - I'm guessing that's what you want to do.
Out of habit more than anything else, I do this the drag and drop way in excel and this should work in Numbers to.
Lets say you want to get rid of A2 and be moving A3 to A8 in it's place (so A3 replaces A2, A4 replaces A3 and so on). I would select A3 to A8, and drag and drop so A3 is in the A2 position.
Of course, it's not as convenient if you have A3 to A10000000000 to move.0 -

OH says thank you.
He thinks he can get into the habit of that quite quickly.
