Hi everyone,
I need some ideas to jolly up my garden as its depressing!:o
Here are some photos:

This one shows the patio & my atempt at a planter! haha this will be going, and those of you that have notice the bodged man hole cover under the green container that is also being sorted! the garden was supposidly landscaped before we moved in!

This one shows my gorgeous girls who are responsbile for the tip! well partly!:rotfl:

What i'm thinking is:
Put a picket fence across the patio where the railway sleepers are to stop the dog getting to the girls
Paving where the chickens house is & fencing it so they can only free range down that side of the garden
Creating raised beds with railway sleepers to grow veggies
Planting some plants - can anyone suggest anything? & where to get good value ones from?
thanks
BB

It dosn't look too bad to me to be honest, it is February and a cold one at that.
Your ideas sound great, best place to chose for plants are garden centres. I can't quite see from your picture but it dosn't look like you have much shade, so does it get sun for most of the day?
The plants in GC are sectioned out into plants for shade / sun and that soil looks like very wet clay, again look for plants which suit this type.
As I say it looks okay to me, alot going on as well

Your garden looks a little drab as it is winter. It will look much brighter once your grass comes back to life and your veg starts growing.
For good value veg, see the FREE SEEDS thread on this board.
I think some sunflowers would be good. Cheerful plants and the hens love eating the flower heads in Autumn.0 -
And use your (borrow one) pressure washers and give the paving slabs a good clean.
Fence looks like it could do with another woodstain to preserve it and make it look a tad better. You could try with the fece as well but you will likely need a decent quality as some look weathered
Other than that a good tidy up - your plans sound good. Get some decent plants in and when the sun comes out im sure it will look great.0 -
What is it that bothers you particularly about your garden? It doesn't look very green, I'll give you that, but I can't see a whole lot wrong with it that a good tidy up wouldn't solve. Is there any reason that the wheelie bin is kept where it is, for instance? Wouldn't it be better off tucked into a corner somewhere?
If you're just fed up with it, I'd advise doing a whole redesign, working in the things that don't need to or can't be altered (such as the position of the shed). I think tinkering with bits here and there isn't going to make enough of a difference to make you feel happier about it.
If you'd like to make raised beds, there are cheaper options for the edging, such as old scaffolding planks. Railway sleepers are overkill imo.0 -
yes the wheelie bin doesnt live there!:) its used for my chicken storage, i will put it behind the shed was just out for mucking out the run

How can i alter the position of the shed? surely moving it is a big job?
I think i prefer the look of the sleepers plus they are more robust & weather proof than the scaffolding planks?
I also have a small alluminum and glass green house i'd like to errect, where do you think i could put this?0 -

If it's owned by flats behind, get their permission before you paint it.This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

You think your garden is bad - you should see mine.
Dh has renamed it as the Hiroshima of the North East.
Ok, so I went a bit wild with the chain saw last summer, but those leylandi were blocking all the sun:rotfl::rotfl:
However I now have the best part of 30 tree stumps that I cannot physically dig up and the quotes I have had average £2,000:eek::eek::eek:.
I think we should start a new thread on the worst gardens:DLight travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -
