Pretending We Are Not in a Depression!

First, some background. If you believe that we have "escaped" from the mess that gripped this nation in 2008 and 2009, or that said mess "suddenly appeared" and "nobody saw it coming", stop reading now and have your Thorazine dosage checked.

It's way off.

Assuming you accept the truth - that this mess was 20 year or more in the making, that it involved creating credit (that is, debt) which the debtor could never pay, and that it still exists because our government policy has been to extend, pretend and allow lies that should be considered accounting fraud and result in prison sentences, then you're on the right page to understand the rest of this missive. Again, if not, go check your Thorazine dosage.

this is why you cannot compare to the US
A girl beaten on a train platform while uniformed rail security stands and watches. A young man who appears to have been executed by a different rail security officer, even after he was subdued, face-down, without a weapon and easily able to be cuffed.
the only complaint that i have about our railway network is that it is usually too crowded

Even after all this time now, I STILL don't know a single person in my family of group of friends who has been effected by anything over the last couple of years. Honestly, I step away from these forums and it's life as usual, as it has always been.

Obviously others have been effected one way or another but in my world nothing has happened. I should probably stop concerning myself with it and just be normal.

I was in the Trafford Centre on saturday, I have to say it wasn't readily apparent that we are on the verge of a depression! People were happily spending lots of money and the place was as busy as I have ever seen it.

I live on the outskirts of a rather affluent town, during the daytime everything looks the same. People are shopping, smiling and just enjoying life.

However, in my place of work, we've shed thousands of workers over the last 3 years (admittedly, this was coming sooner or later anyway) but there are more in scope to go in the first quarter and these losses, in the words of management are down to the current economic climate.

Also know five people who lost their jobs when Littlewoods & Woolworths went pop and people who work in Ford and Vauxhall, who aren't convinced they will be there in 2 years time.

Try telling any of the above, the UK is business as usual.

It's all about perspective... just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening.

The only reason we are in a recession/depression is because MPs were 'found out' and they can no longer flash the cash and spend to the John Lewis list.

How much has that cost the economy??

The MP's expense scandal obviously has been going on for many years.

The question everyone needs to ask.. is why was this information exposed to the public? and not kept a big Secret?

Maybe because now they can blackmail the MP's

"You better pass that legislation or we will expose in tomorrow's newspaper how much you really spent on your second home"
