help!! plumber wont call me back now he's been paid

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this but was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to do next.

I had my central heating installed just before Christmas and since had several leaks which were sorted within a day or so mainly due to the fact that he had not been paid or at least thats what i'm thinking now, as i have discovered yet another leak recently and the plumber now seems to be ignoring my calls, so does anyone know if there's anything leagally i can do, how long after installation do i get as it's only been 3 months it if that.

I could probably fix it myself if i do a bit of digging on the net as how to drain down the system and re-fill but i'd rather not if it would affect were i stand legally should something else happen

Thanks

When you drain and refill you need to add the inhibiter's each time (£££)

If he's a one man band, he may have been on holiday skiing. You could try ringing him from a different phone - mobile or home or work.
  • The leak is on the return side not TRV side there is a little white cap which pops off and then theres a flat stub which can be turned. when you open this the recess were the the stub sticks up from fills with water then over flows and runs down the pipe.

Does anyone know where i stand legally and what?? if anything i can do. I really should'nt be having to fix this myself it's not even 3 months old yet and it was'nt bloody cheap either.
  • Hi

Where were the other leaks from?

Sounds like a dodgy lockshield valve. If its a packed gland type you may be able to tighten the nut at the top to stop the leak. Most these days are O ring sealed and if yours is then the o ring has probably got damaged on installation. It could be that the o ring is replacable, if not then the valve needs replacing.

Its faulty from new so the plumber should fix it or replace it.
  • Send him a letter by recorded & tell him he has 7 days to fix it & if not you will get someone else in & send him the bill & he will have 14 days to pay it or you will take him to court immediately.

Then move on & do whatever you want.

  • Last 2 leaks were the same thing. i think he replaced the whole valve thing
  • Send the guy a recorded delivery letter giving him five days to come and fix the problems, and stating that if he does not, then you will engage another contractor to correct the work and seek recovery in the County Court, and upon non-payment enforce any order with a charge on his property or petition for bankruptcy.

If he is a legit business, that normally frightens them.
  • Hi

From what I have read so far the only thing he is guilty of is not nipping up the packing glands on the lockshield side. (something I do after all is balanced up and tested.) I assume they were they new valves that he fitted?
Not sure why he won't come back .Did you get on all right?
