well, theres an easy way to choose. which type does your dvd writer accept.
if it accepts both, pick the cheapest.

one of them allows for more storage capacity, but since you buy 4.7 ghz most of the time anyway, there is no major difference. One of the formats also is used to make dual layer discs. i just cant remember which is which lol
  • Once you have worked out which type you need, you then need to find a brand that is compatible with your DVD writer as different brands record at different write speeds. Sometimes it's trial and error to find the right brand but search this forum or Google using your DVD writer's make as a key search word. Recording at a speed of 1x is no fun!

By the way, just because it says "8x" on the disk doesn't mean it will record at that speed. It will record "up to" that speed.

I buy my blank DVDs and CDs from here by the way https://www.ukdvdr.co.uk
  • Little John. Sorry - I stand corrected. I was just speaking from my experience from using a Datawrite "8x" DVD-R that I could only write to at "1x" and a Ritek "8x" DVD-R that I could write to at "4x" using the same DVD software and DVD writer. I therefore don't buy the Datawrite ones now. Perhaps my reference to "brands" was too general. However, your knowledge of DVDs seems more superior to mine. Thanks for your input.

Maybe the OP can correct me but I decided to disregard the fact the the authoring DVDr is a lower capacity as I didnt expect the OP to be using that type of media. if the OP does use that type of media I applogise for missing that peice out.

the 4.7Ghz/GB I forgot the :) after it sorry, I also dont dislike you but when someone is asking about somthing they need the correct information without anything in there that can confuse them even more. you will see alot of my posts are edited as I notice spelling mistakes and change them after my fat fingers and laptop keyboard dont mix very well.
