Landlords and letting agents.....?

Hi,
I was just wondering if there was anyway in which a landlord or letting agent might possibly be persuaded to let to a mature student couple? I enquired about a property and the LA said that this particular property stipulates you must be in full time employment and that the student loans and grants arent 'income' as such so the LL wont accept us. Would there be a way to persuade them to change their minds or would it be pointless in even asking them? Together we will be getting just short of £20k/yr over the next 3 years at which point, because of my career choice, I am practically guaranteed a job on min £25k/yr so we definately have the money available to pay the rent, but how how can I get them to see things from my side.....or will they never see things from my side?

Some landlords have mortgages which state their tenants must be in full time employment, so this may be the case. As a general rule, most letting agents and landlords will consider letting to you, you just need to keep asking the question. Either that, or try the back of the paper and go down the private rental route-these landlords tend to be more flexible.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

Suggest you pay rent up front on a per term basis? ie the landlord knows he has rent covering X months.
You can see it from their point of view - how many people didn't get their first payment until Nov/Dec/Jan in this academic year? I know of several...
Mature student is no different from an undergrad in this scenario - the landlord wants to see a definite funding source and is discounting student loans, perhaps for the above reason. Your job is to convince the landlord you will be able to pay the rent by whatever means. Have you any savings you can dip into? Can either of you work full or part time to bring money in?If this post wasn't up to your standards, please lower your standards...

Oh I can completely see it from their point of view, we didnt get my OH's loan until jan this yr BUT we still could afford to pay the rent, we found ways and it was never late/absent, we prioritised. I like your idea of paying X amount of months up front, do you think it would be best to actually do negotiations in the LAs office or over the phone?0 -
