QVC rings

I have purchased many items of jewellery from QVC and mostly been very happy. Last year I returned a gold ring to them that had snapped at the shoulder for no apparent reason. They refunded me in full. In october 2009 I purchased a gold ring which has also broken and been returned for a full refund. I also spoke to them about 2 other gold rings that had broken in January 2010. They declined to give me a refund stating that the 12 month warranty had expired. I advised them I did not believe that this limited guarantee would apply to the rings as I would obviously expect that gold rings would be fit to be worn for far longer than than 1 year. (they have lasted for 18months) They said that I could write to them and ask if they will consider a refund, but I am sure there must be some sort of consumer law that covers me. I am sure I am not on my own in expecting that a gold ring will last many many years otherwise it is not fit for purpose. Any ideas what my response should be.

So you've bought 4 gold rings that are all broken and you're happy with QVC jewellery?
I'd say that you're only appealling to their better nature here. Due regard has to be given to the price paid as well, if you bought the ring for say £20 you can hardly expect it to last a lifetime. If its a quality gold ring can it not be repaired? You'll have more joy out of them that way then trying for a full refund0 -
You are either very unlucky or must have some sort of hobby or job that is wrecking the rings. One broken ring, possible, 2 broken rings still maybe possible but 4?0

no I do not have any hobbies or habits that would make these rings break. Also they were only worn occassionally, not continuously. I actually noticed they were broken when I was sitting on my bed at the end of the day and felt the rings digging into my finger (on 4 diffeent occassions obviously). The rings in question were all £100+, so not bought cheaply. My question is how long should I expect a quality ring to last and do I have any comeback using consumer law.0

Ring consumer direct and they should be able to provide you with good advice.0

Find out the cost to get them fixed. If they're all breaking in the same manner, theres a chance its something you're doing.0
