Thanks guys that helps a lot. I only wondered because it was so frustrating with the tribunal etc. Had lower M and C for around 4 years and then on advice sent back change of condition forms as I felt my condition had worsened. Got turned down for the change so appealed. Had to wait 8 months and then got HRC and LRM with no evidence just me speaking with them. Got backdated around 6 months ago, two weeks after the appeal, but of course because it was for 2 years, after 6 months of recieving it monthly I'm going to be due to go through it all again already.

Don't get me wrong, I consider myself lucky to get the help. I'm sure there's many people worse off than me, but I have a severe anxiety disorder and it was so humiliating last time. Had to be in a separate room, got very distressed as I never go out and have social phobia. (Although even i find it odd that i have no problems talking with people online. Must be a face to face thing.) They were lovely though. Had never seen a psychiatrist and had been diagnosed by my GP who is wonderful. However, recently asked to be referred and have seen a psychiatrist 4 times now. He keeps saying he doesn't want to label me besides the anxiety disorder and also doesn't believe in medication unless all else fails so is looking at psychotherapy. Has also hinted that I have something called an emotional personality disorder.

So the reason I was interested is that as I have been unwell for at least 10 years with nothing even making a dent in my symptoms, i would have to go through this every 2 years and have a lump sum of backdated and 6 months of normal payments.

Sorry for the off topic ramble. It's a bit therapeutic here. lol Never been on a forum before with people so knowledgeable about various subjects and so helpful:)
  • saversue, thanks for your kind words. My life is very different to how I imagined it, but it has giuven me so many opportunities that i wouldn't have had otherwise, not to mention my gorgeous little lad.

Yuki60, good luck with your next application. I hope that you don't have to go through the strains of a tribunal. I agree with you about the forums being therapeutic - on the whole, people are so lovely and supportive. I'm also a member of another forum and I think it has made a real difference over the last few years to have online support no matter what time of day or night.
  • An indefinite award only means they wont ask you to re-apply for 12 months, after that they may ask you to re-apply under what is known as "right payment protection",in reallity this affects around 1% of indefinite awards each year, but it is worth keeping in mind

  • Just wondering a friend of mine was given a "lifetime award" over 15 years ago what is the difference in that.
She has problems that have not and are not expected to get any better.
  • indefinite awards have replaced lifetime awards, although there are still some older claims still on lifetime

MH problems are very rarely given indefinite awards, due to the fact that they can vary over time. As kingfisherblue said, indefinite awards are only granted where there is little (or no) possibility of the claimants condition improving. Also, an indefinite award does not mean that the award will not be reviewed over time, most with indefinite awards still receive a form every few years.

My OH has just been given LRC and LRM indefinate for a mental health condition (psychosis, depression and delusional disorder) My parents both have lifetime DLA awards as my dad's illness is classed as terminal and my mum's is so severe that she will only get worse.

What's the difference between lifetime & indefinite?

My award is indefinite too; but would prefer a higher rate (I do meet the criteria for MRC) and a shorter award.
