starting to feel abnormal

before i start i am not getting married.....yet, no date set or anything for the near future, but i love coming on here to gets ideas, and go awwww at dresses etc but.......
i am feeling abnormal to all here,
as i dont want to give favours, (do i have to)
i dont want a sit down dinner (is it expected)
and i wont be having a sweetie table (coz i will eat them all before the big day lol)
all we want is a late wedding then straight into a party, with a buffet/hog roast, drinking and dancing
99% of our friends are bikers, so they wont dress up (not that i care as long as they enjoy our day as much as us)
but with everyone is mentioning the above, and to have that will put us in debt ie loans (and we dont want that), i feel like i am not doing it the right way iyswim
im not trying to put anyone down or anything for having them, but is anyone else not having these things ???
or is it just me
we are thinking of doing it in a few years or so but i dont want the added extra expense, as im such a tightwad lol

Dont be silly

I am having all those things....but thats cus they are things that I want to have
Your day, whenever it is, should be what you and your other half want it to be
Dont do things you dont want to just cus you think its the 'done thing'
Make it individual to you...your friends/family will enjoy it more that way anyway
Married on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
I'm havign a late wedding (3.30) with just a buffet and lots of dancing so if yuor abnoraml then so am I!
Its your wedding, you do it how you and your OH want to do it and not how everyone else tells you to.0 -
Hi Webitha, I would think it's entirely up to you whether or not you want favours, a sit down meal, etc. etc - lot of people have those things, because they want them, and a lot of people don't, because they don't
I would say go with designing a day that will make you both happy and that you will enjoy, and don't worry about what anyone else has, doesn't have or thinks - it's your day, and with any luck you only get to do it once! 0 -
We didn't spend the night before apart (we got married 200+ miles from home so stayed in a hotel, me, him and our baby)
We went to the hairdressers together in the morning and had a wander round the local town.
I arrived 45 mins late! Ooops.
We got married at 1pm
We didn't invite extra people for the evening, we wanted all our guests there all day.
We didn't have a sit down meal.
We didn't have sweets.
We had around 15 children there out of 50ish.
We provided all the drinks for everyone (there was no other option)
We didn't give out favours.
We didn't have a disco, but did have a rock star play in the early evening.
We bought all the day's newspapers and our guests sat in front of log fires reading them.
We had Owls!!!!!!
We had snow.
We are still hearing about how much everyone loved our wedding.
Do it your way!,___,

whatver is the best for you is normal
people will probably enjoy your day more than others.
just watching Four Weddings to see that ott is not always a good thing!!'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -

Webitha, your day sounds proper fab!! A lovely wedding with a hog roast and a party is going to be ace!!
PS: I only did favours cos I got them dirt cheap in the sales or I'd not have bothered either
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Its a phase often used on this side of MSE, "Go for your day" and noone elses.
I am getting married on saturday, and while I admire the creativity and talent of the various people who have created favours, we arent having them nor a disco or other "normal" things.
A biker wedding sounds fun, a few of my guests are bikers, and should be hilarious to see them dressed up in suits, which they have promised they will, one complained that last time he was in a suit was when he was in court for doing 128mph on the M1.
Surely all you need for a biker wedding is a mountain of booze, hog roast and a loud band?
Enjoy sounds like it will be a hoot.0 -
You're not abnormal - make it whatever you want it to be - just make it a day that is about you and your partner celebrating your relationship with people you care about.
We're hardly traditional (being two women!!!) but are doing some traditional and some quirky things!
We are staying together at the venue the night before & the rest of the weekend,
We aren't having a 'middle aisle' we are walking down either side of the room with our Mums and flower girls to "here come the girls!".
We are having a Best Women each,
A joint hen w/end in B'pool,
Speeches straight after the ceremony,
A buffet meal,
Felt flower corages,
and cheese instead of a cake!
We are doing favours, but mainly because I dicovered 'flannel cupcakes' on the crafty thread and wanted an excuse to make some!!!"Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0
