Phone unlocking help - unsure of firmware?

I have a Sony Ericsson W580 that I'm trying to unlock using these instructions (found here on MSE - thanks to gaming_guy)
I've worked out that my phone is a db2020, so far so good. I've then tried to find my phone's firmware here and I can see the number/letter combination R8BA024 in the service menu on my phone, but I can't see RED52 or 53 anywhere? It also says EUROPE_2 in my phone, but there are still several options under both menus, none of which seem to match mine exactly, so I'm at a loss.
Hoping that someone somewhat more technically minded than me can help...?

you need to use the 'identify' button in SEtool to find that out.

If it's CID52, then i might be able to help, but if it's CID53, then i cant help as i gave up with modding SE phones long before SE introduced CID53 a few years ago

Ah thank you, so glad you found my post! :T
I'm not exactly an expert in this field, and I think it's probably too complicated for me... I had only read the beginning of the instructions about downloading firmware and patch generator & though maybe I could do this, but SEtool, I don't even know what it is! If you can help me I would be eternally grateful, but if it seems too much hassle I totally understand!

I have no idea about how you unlock CID53 DB2020 phones though.

Fantastic - thanks! Let's hope it's a CID52 one then!
Only one problem - when I click on the link to download the SEtool, the link is broken - any other ideas? (you seem to have a few!)

I'm still struggling..! For some reason,instead of a download link, I get this error message: log in or register!" alt="To download, you first have to log in or register!"/> To download, you first have to log in or register!
(I have logged in!)
Instead I found a version 1.11, uploaded by akshay (not sure if the link will work), which I downloaded. Is it because it's a different version that I can't see an "identify" button anywhere, or is it because I'm thick...?

8th button down, right hand side. (don't worry about the version as it should be very similar in 1.11)

Also, look at the log (on the left). See that 'FLASH CID Detected: 49' bit? That is where you find out the CID protection on the phone.

Aha - finally working! I couldn't get it to run until I turned off my antivirus! Now let's see how I get on...

Ok, I was assuming that I could just use the USB lead that came with the phone, but it's telling me to Hold "C" and insert USB cable, so it doesn't seem to detect that I've connected it...?
Or am I not just supposed to plug it in, select phone model & click identify...? Perhaps there's something else I should've done first...?

have you installed the USBflash drivers?
