I have a £5 coin, tried paying it into HSBC and they don't accept them, any ideas? Don't want to spend it in a shop, as it's not worth the hassle arguing the toss with the shop

http://www.royalmint.com/Corporate/facts/coins/FivePoundCoin.aspxEach new crown issue is authorised by Royal Proclamation, as required by the Coinage Act of 1971. A crown therefore has legal tender status, but since it is not a circulation coin, most retailers will refuse to accept it. In recognition, however, that some people may wish to exchange a crown piece given or purchased as a souvenir, post offices have agreed to accept crowns in exchange for goods and services.0

since a crown now appears to be £5 does that mean that the half-crowns that I have are now worth £2.50?;)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If the Post Office doesn't accept it ask to speak to the manager. The chances are your average counter clerk has never seen a £5 coin, the manager is more likely to be able to deal with it.
On the other hand, you could probably sell it for more than £5.0 -
What year/design is the coin?0
