Prague on a shoe string

Hi all

I'm off to Prague next week and was wondering if anyone has any advise on how to have a good time without breaking the bank.

Thanks in advance for any advise recieved.

  • Hi we are going next week too! It depends what you like, the beer is good and very cheap and we found the restaurants near Charles Bridge a bit dearer than others.

The best one we found last year was a pub just off Wencelas Square, although it was very busy we were served almost immediately by a lovely waitress who kept the beer  flowing (30p as opposed to 90p by Charles Bridge!), the food was very generous sized portions (my Husband ordered leg of pork - and that is what he got - a full leg of pork!:rotfl: )and the cost for 3 was around £12.00 including drinks!,we shall be heading there on the first night:T !
here is their web site ;-

During the day you can wander around and take in the fantastic atmosphere and sights, even the Castle is free you just pay to go in certain areas. For lunch we went to the bakeries for very cheap sandwiches and exquisit cakes we even bought some wine for £1.50 from Tesco! (Beer is about 15-20p in local shops, you even get money back on the bottle!)

In the evening we went for meals and even went to a music recital in a very ornate opera house, music concert tickets were on sale everywhere and quite a lot were in churches and very cheap.

The metro is fantastic and for around 40p you can get from one side if the city to the other.

Are you staying in a hotel or, like us an apartment?

Bargin hunters thanks for the advice, very much appreciated. We are staying in a hotel. We're there for five days and though guide book always feel personnel recommendations are so much better.
