Im pretty sure it was being hacked as last week I was on my xbox live which was connected direct to my router in my bedroom. At the time I thought nothing of it but the game was lagging really badly for 30 minutes and my Mums laptop was on downstairs?

The obvious point closed well made:T, the OP needs to look at the router when it is happening and probably regularly during the week unless the router logs help. Also it might help to scan mum's laptop as I intimated earlier. Changing WPA/WPA2 etc is for prevention (or not).
