Cheque Problems

One of my mates asked me for help regarding the cheque he received. Not really sure how to explain, but it's a problem with his name on the 'payable to' section. Her full name is something like Zhao Wei Lee (just an example) but the cheque is addressed to only "Zhao Wei" without the Lee.

She was asking whether she can cash in the cheque. Any help?

I wonder having seen this letter in the DT
    By any other name

Sir - My husband and I are both known by our second Christian names and reluctantly have had to accept, since the advent of computers, that for official purposes we are Edmund and Penelope.

Recently the local bank that we have used for over 40 years has been returning cheques where the payee does not include our first initial or full name. A manager explained the bank's new policy and advised that the solution would be to change our names by deed poll.

Parents should be aware of the annoyance that their children will face if they are not known by their first forename. Perhaps you could add a warning in the Birth Announcements?

What will some clerk do with yout friend is no one's guess. The surname equivalnt is not the last name , is it?

Why not just try to deposit in a branch to see what happen? Or if your friend doesn't want the risk of getting rejected. Just ask for another cheque bearing her full name. I am sure she is entitled to get a cheque which is correctly named. Simple.

I had a cheque made out to myself a few months ago which was a bit of a pain. The cheque was made out to Judi **** (surname ommited), after i had told the woman to make the cheque made payable to Judith ****. The bank wouldnt pay it into my account and she pulled a face at having to issue a new one.
