I have a South facing single storey utility room - all recently built with block walls and tiles roof and modern insulation standards. However, I noticed this weekend that it was really heating up in the sunshine in there if I didn't leave the door to the kitchen open to let air circulate. It made me think that a south-facing conservatory would already be uncomfortably hot this early in the year so I dread to think what it would be like by the summer.

I've got a south facing conservatory and I love it. It has a tinted roof and that's fine with us. Yes we have all the windows open in the summer but it opens into a fairly large dining room and that seems to be enough to regulate the temperature. No roof blinds just rarely used window blinds (glare)

Just wondering if you did go ahead with a conservatory? We are looking at having one and also have a Suth facing garden. 2 neighbours have and haven't had a problem.

Anyone used a conservatory company in South Wales they would recommend? We've had 1 quote and awaiting 2 - problem is they all seem to offer different advice. 2 have said don't have a glass roof no matter what, whilst one says that's the best option...

Obviously you will be used to a fair bit of rain being in Wales so a glass roof may be better from a noise point of view. Poly roofs are definitely noisier although some of the newer better insulated thicker versions may minimise that slightly

Specify plenty of opening windows and/or roof vents to help regulate the temperature in summer

We had one on our last house, in a south facing garden. It was meant to be the kids' playroom but they would have needed to wear sunglasses the whole time. The glare was incredible. I wouldn't do it again without spending lots on blinds.
