Have you installed the drivers (go get the latest ones from the HP / Lexmark site)?

    Is the printer switched on?

are you connecting the USB cable directly to the PC and not via a 'hub' (ie into the back/front, not via a keyboard, monitor or other socket)

Were the printers ever recognized? Is this a new and recent problem? Would a system restore help?

Without the printer plugged in, Control Panel / Device Manager

    - Universal Serial Bus Controllers
should have generic / root / composite & PCi to USB stuff in there - have you ?

    - Human Interface Devices - what's in there ?

    then

With the printer plugged in, Control Panel / Device Manager

    - Universal Serial Bus Controllers
should have generic / root / composite & PCi to USB stuff in there - has anything changed compared to the above ?

What virus checker are you using ?
What O/S are you using ?
