How do I get sound back on pc?

When I first bought my pc and monitor, I got sound ( hdmi connection) without having to do any kind of set up.
For a while, I've realised that I've had no sound.
What can be the problem? How do I fix it? ( I'm on windows 7)

Have you checked your sounds settings in the control panel in case you've accidently muted the volume?A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting.0

Are you using the speakers in the monitor ?
How does / is the monitor connect[ed] to the sound out from the computer ?
Sounds / 1st tab, does the speaker icon have a green tick ?
or are you on S/PDIF, HDMi, headphones ?
