Gas/Electric Cash Rebate

Hi, we received almost £500 this year as a rebate. It was quick and simple and done by phone and email. We have been doing this for quite a few years when we have managed to get credit and have used it as a bonus for Christmas. This year we did get our direct debit cancelled by mistake but they did send us a letter so we were able to sort it out with just one call. Plus they sent us a letter showing we owed them money but that was sorted immediately. Fantastic.....:money:

    Welcome to the forum.

Not sure I understand your post.

Are you saying you lend the Utility company money at 0% interest, and get it back at Christmas?

Yes, that appears to be what they are doing. Guess it saves the hassle of licking savings stamps and losing the card. I suppose if you don't have the discipline to leave the savings accounts un-dipped-in it makes some sort of sense. Not exactly a 'rebate', though.
  • Hi, sorry new to this game. Throughout the year because we only had a small credit the company would not give us a rebate in case we used it all during the winter so we had to wait.
  • I assume you are overpaying over 12 months then claiming it back as a rebate

Yes we are given the amount to pay by the gas/electric board and each time we query we are told we need to pay the given amount. Our monthly payments have gone down for the new year so it will be interesting to see if we save money unintentionally this year!!

Which supplier? I would demand a more appropriate DD amount or change supplier. Utility bills are high enough without overpaying £500 in advance.

I notice B Gas have introduced a system offering an incentive to those who read the meter monthly and only pay for the ammount used each month.

Our supplier is British Gas and we have the Electricity as well. Our DD have reduced for the coming year so we shall see what happens. The amount I agree was excessive this year, other years we have had nearer £200. This has been a learning curve.
