Hi, I have Windows 7 release candidate version and the free licence expires in 9 days.
If i revert back to XP or buy W7 will i lose my data etc or can it be 'updated' or the like?
Thanks

Back up everything, then when you install your operating system you can reload. Anything you don't back up will be lost. In my opinion, go with W7, so much better than xpNorn Iron Club Member 417:beer:0

If you buy seven (my favourite option) you will have to do a clean install, so back up all you need first, the same basically applies with Xp too but presumably you saved that before putting the RC on so you should only have to save the newer stuff, but I would still back up the whole shebang. If you have enough space on your hd you could partition the drive and install the new 7 /old xp on the spare new partition.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . So i cannot revert back to my old system without losing data, seems a bit unfair, !!!!!!!
I wouldn't of taken the trial or RC version on had i realised that!
Is ther definitely no way can upgrade the RC to full version without the hassle!0 -
I ran the RC for a while before picking up a full copy of W7 Home Premium. There were various bold warnings about it been purely for testing and also about not been able to keep your data if you updated or reverted later. No idea how you managed to miss them all!
Surely you have all your data backed up anyway? A hard drive is probably the least reliable thing in a computer.0 -

As mentioned above it was not a trial it was a product for IT Professionals and Enthusiasts to test.
You could try this work around but I would ensure everything is backed up.The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

yep - £38 if you can grab a kid and get the student deal, cheap enough for even me to go legal! - (though don't ask what I upgraded from ;P )
(imagine not having to look for the latest wga fix? knowing you can download every update without the risk of rebooting to a black desktop and a reminder that you nicked it? - worth ~£40 to me

That plus the knowledge that you haven't downloaded a copy rootkitted to the hilt.DatabaseError wrote: »yep - £38 if you can grab a kid and get the student deal, cheap enough for even me to go legal! - (though don't ask what I upgraded from ;P )

Like a good little boy I had all my data in a separate partition.
When I upgraded from W7RC to W7 all I had to do was take a note of other software I had installed and reinstall it after the installation.
Yes it would have been nice just to be able to put a new licence code in it but I didn't find the reinstall too much of a hassle0 -
to be honest I've never had a problem with software from unusual sources. Like general surfing..there's always a 'safe' way, and limewire/emule/public trackers aint the safe waymr_fishbulb wrote: »That plus the knowledge that you haven't downloaded a copy rootkitted to the hilt.
