What is the legal course of action.

Last October (2009) a well known paper along with its sister publication ran an internet promotion.
This promotion was aimed at people registered on the papers website.
Thpromotion was PURCHASE papers for 2weeks and send in the Mastheads to recieve 'In time for Christmas' £500 worth of saving vouchers.
Well after one excuse after another 5 months on still no vouchers and still no sign of them arriving in the near future (possibly for Christmas 2010, but won't hold one's breath).
If this had been a free promotion then I wouldn't care so much, but one HAD TO PURCHASE PAPERS and send the Mastheads to them along with a copy of an email confirmation from them in order to qualify.

Should I complain to the ASA and Trading Standards as I have been informed that to not recieve something that has actually been paid for is illegal.

Suggestions please.

Have you contacted them to ask what the delay was? What was their response when you did contact them?

What were the terms and conditions of the 'offer'?
    Gone ... or have I?

Yes I have contacted them. that is why I posted that I have had one excuse after another.

Their first excuse was the postal strike.
Next they didn't expect so many to take up the offer.
Next the second wave of postal strike.
Next they had ran oput of books of vouchers and were awaiting delivery.
Next that as they had a legal obligation to supply the vouchers they wanted the end user to have full benefits and that they would not have them in time for Christmas.
Next we would have them in time for January sles.
Next they were awaiting new sponsor vouchers as all previous had expired.
Next it was there was a delay in printing the new books of vouchers.
Yesterday, it was that they had sent out letters to apologise but the vouchers were being dispatched Mid February and had we not received their letter? (No we hadn't).

Bear in mind that I have been chasing them.
Other than one email from them it would seem that they are not really bothered.

We were also informed that any vouchers we were not going to use ourselves we could pass on to friends for them to use.

So, to pay out £7.00 for a return of up to £500 savings from a reputable national newspaper and her sister paper seemed a great deal.

The only way to get the vouchers was the following.

To purchase the daily and the sunday paper and cut off the mastheads.
To have a copy of an email with a unique number on it sent from the newspaper. (This was a specific aimed promotion).
To send the above to an address on the said email.
  • Below is a copy of the confirmation email from them.
Notice they even put in 'To guarentee you'll recieve...'

Oh well, what can you say

There is a general culture these days of people and organisations not doing what they say they are going to do

It has come from the top down from the failure of the banks, the lies of our government and media, to the general dishonesty and inefficiency of people we are forced to deal with on a day to day basis

I hope you get your vouchers
    squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:
