Our old number was one digit from the local primary school and used to dread it snowing because the phone would constantly ring for days with people asking if we were open. Some times you got the odd person who were convinced they had phoned the right number and argue the fact so if I was in a mischievous mood whilst they were wittering on I would make smacking noises and say things like 'Now get back to class'. This usually made people stop what they were going on about and question if they actually had the right numberIf At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00

I used to get regular calls for a local indian takeaway, and yes, I agree, it can be frustrating.
One option is to contact your telephone provider and request a renumber due to nuisance calls. However, this may still not resolve the problem as people could still misdial that number!0 -
We used to get calls because of numpties who think the Leeds code is 01132. They are similar to the thickos who quote 0208 and 0207 as the London codes.
When they issued numbers in the 0113 3xx xxxx range said thickos put a 2 in when calling the hospital and got through to our number.
"Oh what difference does it make" say rudely unapologetic thickos. I'll tell you, loads and loads of nuisance calls.
PS my antagonistic attitude to said people came after, not before said nuisance calls.0 -
Are number is one digit different to a restaurant near us. It's a fish restaurant now used to be Italian. Get the odd person ringing up trying to book a table, or there'll be a message on answer machine.Come on you Irons0

I lived in a flat that had the same number that used to be a branch of Abbey National. People used to call wanting to check bank accounts etc. One woman phoned three times (she hung up straight away first time, then refused to believe me that this wasn't a bank, but the number was old), very very nearly asked for all her bank details.0

My mobile was one number different from a carpet fitter. Shouldn't have been too much of a problem but he obviously wasn't very good as people kept phoning up and leaving rude messages and hanging up!0
