Need some advice on cash for gold

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place,
I would like some advice regarding the adverts i've seen on TV and online for selling gold.
I was looking at this as i do have some old gold that i could sell, but not sure which ones are scams and is there hidden cost etc.
Has any one used one of these places before? what was your experence with these companys?
Thanks for listening

  • Scroll through this board, or do a search for "gold", there are lots of threads about these companies and people's experiences with them.

Inside Out, East, covered this subject last week - you can watch it here:

Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • I have just sold some of mine at Hatton Garden Metals, (google them for the website) they have good reviews on here, you weigh your gold at home tell them how much you are sending in, send it special delivery and the money is in your bank next day. They use up to the day values on the gold markets and I was very impressed, don't be fooled by the TV commercial ones, they pay peanuts (they have very expensive tv ads to pay for!!)

You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.
  • Has anybody sold gold in the manchester area recently?- any advice on jewellers etc. who give a good price?

:A I got £6 per gram last weekend at a reputable Leeds jewellers. Was very pleased as it was all broken bits & odd earrings-£390! So it gives you a bit of an idea of prices. Worth ringing a few places.
  • My girlfriend (whoops, I meant Fiance!!!) works for Warren James jewellers in Lakeside (Essex).

She just got sent for training for buying gold.

They are going to be buying gold and apparently they give £6.75 a gram for 9ct gold.

I know this is my first post but I don't work for them and I'm not spamming.
Just thought I'd finally get involved and this seemed appropriate.

I used to work abroad and had a small amount of 'Trashy' gold (seemed a good idea to buy it at the time.) None of it was hallmarked and some bits were broken , earings. chains etc. . Took it to a local jewllers yesterday reckoning that anything over £100 I would accept. They had to test the pieces first and offered me £400! Accepted as I had not worn any of the unbroken bits for about 15 years. Money now in my savings for my next holiday. I added up what I origanly paid and reckon I made 200% profit.
