Just planted seeds - advice please..

Good evening

Yesterday I planted some seeds, onions, herbs and chilli's. I also planted a strawberry hanging basket.

I have bought one of these mini greenhouse things from Ald1 so my seeds are in little propagater within the greenhouse. The hanging basket is just sat on one of the shelves for now.

Couple of questions
  • How often should I be watering the seeds and the hanging basket?
  • What should I use a spray bottle or a watering can? And how much water?
  • When would it be safe to the greenhouse thing outside? Will it have to stay indoors until after the frost?
Apologies in advance if I have duplicated anything that has already been asked and answered on the forum, I have tried searching the forums for these answers to no avail and you lot on the gardening forums seem so lovely so I hope you dont mind. :)

Many thanks

some herbs and other plants prefer not to get the stem or leaves very wet so I tend not to spray water plus once the GH is in the summer sun (we hope we will get some!), hot humid atmospheres encourage blight, and some of the buggies especially on tomatos.

I check each day and water if the soil doesn't feel damp, and water just enough to dampen the soil. You can always add a bit more later on if required, but it is harder to take away if you over water.

My seedlings are still inside and as my GH is unheated will not go out till end of march/april really.

  • Water them when the compost is almost dried out - will need to do it a lot more as the weather wams up.

Just use a watering can - i dont spray anythin i grow.

Be carefull when it gets warmer - you are using 2 x greenhouses really - it will only take a hot day and you could lose your seeds. Have a read up of each of the inddividual things going to work out timings to move out into the mini greenhouse. When it does get warmer be sure to open up the "doors" otherwise your plans will burn in the sun

    Good luck

Your chillies should really be indoors to germinate, it just will not be warm enough outside for a few months yet, by which time it will be too late to get good growth.
