I have recently had 2 bank charges which are my first ones ever and I wasn't even informed by post or any other method of communication that these charges were being taken from my account. The second charge came really close to giving me another charge so I am a little worried by all of this. After speaking to a friend who works in a bank he said that they have to inform me a certain number of days before they take the charges. So what I want to know is:

Is this legal and what should I do about it?

Call your bank and see if you can negotiate the charges to be waived.
If this is the first time it has occurred, and your account is otherwise in good standing, the bank will usually waive the charges as a gesture of goodwill.
