What Fire wire express card - toshiba laptop

Hi

I have a toshiba satellite L300 1as laptop which doesn't have a firewire slot. So I can't dowload video from my camera. I understand that you can buy an express card with a firewire slot that just fits into the express caed slot.

Does anyone have any particular views on this, are they all the same?

Also, would a six pin to four pin cable do for four pin to four pin devices?

For maximum flexibility I'd probably go for something like this:

It has both firewire 400 and 800 support, with what looks to be 6 and 9-pin connectors, so you'll obviously want a cable that matches what's on the camera.

Of course a much cheaper solution would be to get a PCI/PCIe card for a desktop PC, download the video to that and then transfer it across to the laptop...

It'll be fine. The extra 2 pins carry power which obviously won't be carried in a 6 to 4 pin cable. If your device needed the power it'd also have a 6 pin connector.
