Hi use white vinegar neat on the smell. [not the cat, lol] It maybe that its gone through to the underlay. If its gone through its best to lift the carpet and clean the underlay or replace it.

Our cat was not treated well when he was a kitten and when he came to us he was very stressed.
Unfortunately this caused him to wee in certain areas- the bath, sink and once on me when i was in bed:eek:
The vet suggested Feliway and this worked wonders! It seems expensive but if it means you don't have to throw rugs away etc. it's totally worth it. They also gave him Cystaid tablets as they can apparently get sore stomachs from the stress and that can cause them to wee, but give the Feliway a go first.
    Hope all goes well.

P.S We only had to use the Feliway for a couple of months, by then he was a stress-free kitty
Every time life knocks me down, I just stay on the ground for a bit and look up at the sky for a while. Eventually I get up and have a cup of tea.
  • My review of the feliway:

We have 3 cats. The 10 year old cat has been shot with a pellet gun twice. After the second time, he lost a lot of weight and spent a year spraying in the house almost every day. It has been far from easy. I bought the feliway after eventually realising that he was not going to get better with lots of cuddles.

It's been about a month now and, despite having workers in doing general maintenance to the house and the general rough and tumble that 2 under 5s bring with them, the cat has both gained most of his lost weight AND stopped spraying in the house.

I scarcely believed it until we came home from an overnight stay to find a strange cat lounging outside my sons' bedroom door. All 3 of my cats were mooching around completely happily whereas usually there would be fur flying. Unbelievable!

This isn't a cure all. We also have a 10 year old cat that came to us as a feral kitten. She has never been able to tolerate men or children and only allows me to touch her. She is no different in that respect. Our older cat sneezed a lot about a week after we got the feliway and I don't know whether that was a coincidence or not but it passed after a couple of days.

If anything changes I will update this review. Otherwise you can assume that our cat, and consequently the rest of us, are happy and free of yucky spray smells!

I wrote this in May last year and stopped using the feliway after about 4 or 5 months. Still no trouble.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
