Faulty Electric Meter

Hi all I'm in need of some advice.
Since I moved into my new property my electric meter has not been registering any usage but I have been paying £60mth direct debit to Npower. When I got my bill in December I realised my meter hadn't been working as it had not moved any units since I had moved in. I informed Npower and it took till last Saturday for a new meter to be installed. So on Saturday a new meter was installed and I rang Npower giving my old and new readings, now being £300 in credit to Npower I wanted my money back. Npower can not prove what electricity I have used over the last 6mth but they now say I will need to wait until June when I next get a bill so they can estimate my usage for the full year! And I can have none of my £300 back until then. So I have reduced my direct debit to £35. Does anyone know were I stand can they estimate my bill after all I could have used a lot less electricity than they estimate? Can I get some of the credit on my account back now? I have also just checked my meter and my new one has stopped working again it says ‘no load’ like my old one. So even in June they are not going to have any usage to estimate my usage on, should I tell them it's stopped working again?
Sorry so many questions
Thanks Luke

The normal solution with a faulty meter is to get some consumption figures after the meter has been replaced, and use those figures to estimate the consumption during the period the meter wasn't working.
If you are in a flat, perhaps your supply is through a neighbour's meter?0 -

Firstly, yes, you need to get them to sort this. PITA for you, but it has to be done.
Secondly, yes, they will bill you based upon a similar period of time - it's only fair isn't it? You've used the fuel, you have to pay for it - otherwise other people (like me?) have to pay for what you have used - which doesn't seem so fair to me...0
